Beat about the bush:
[to talk about something in
a roundabout way; speak without coming to the main point; to hunt game by
hitting around the bush...]
Having spent the last couple
of years shooting bushes in familiar neighborhoods, I recently started to photograph
the scenes around the Imperial Palace, which stand in the centre of Tokyo.
There, in the ground of the
Imperial Palace and the adjacent buildings, I found many of bushes, It
gradually occurred to me that the Imperial Palace is itself like a huge bush –
one which you are only allowed to look at and not enter. Behind the natural facade,
it is in fact a concentration of political and historical sites.
The Imperial Palace and its
surrounds must have been built for particular purposes. But nowadays, nobody
considers the reason for their existence.
